2 King 6:16 “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.
Have you ever felt like you’re surrounded by troubles? It’s as if you overcome one thing, and another one hits? I think we’ve all been there and it can make us weary.
But God wants to encourage us today to know that He is the one who has us surrounded - by His love and by His angels. His strength is underpinning us and His favour is also surrounding us like a shield.(Psalm 5:12 Nkjv) Yes we are surrounded, but we’re surrounded by Almighty God! Maybe we can just think about that for a minute and draw confidence from it.
Elisha’s servant looked out one morning and they were surrounded by an army of enemy soldiers all over the hillsides. He was scared stiff until Elisha asked God to open his spiritual eyes. When He did, he was able to see multiple thousands of angelic warriors surrounding the enemy soldiers, and he realised God had it all under control and they were being kept safe.π He’s doing that for us too.
Our God is for us, so who can be against us?(Romans 8:31), no weapon turned against you will succeed (Isaiah 54:17) and no matter what the enemy may be challenging us with, we know that we’re not alone.(Hebrews 13:5)
God is surrounding us and fighting our battles for us as we look to Him in faith. We’re on the winning side to the glory of God. Amen.
