WALKING IN LOVE

Colossians 3:12-14 NIV
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved,
clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness,
humility, gentleness and patience.
Bear with each other and forgive one another
if any of you has a grievance against someone.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these virtues put on love,
which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Yesterday we looked at God’s wonderful love for us all and then He goes on to encourage us to show that same love to others which is a different thing altogether! We know there are some people who we find easy to love, and others who rub us up the wrong way, so it can be challenging!😊

I don’t know about you but I need to keep reading these verses over and over to let them sink in. We soon realise we can’t do it on our own but we do have the Holy Spirit inside us to enable us to do as they say. What He requires is our co-operation, and our willingness to obey, especially when we don’t feel like it!

I find it helps when I remember how much I’ve been forgiven and how much God has loved me when I have never deserved it. God’s love and forgiveness are amazing. Jesus Himself reminded us to bless those who curse us or who spitefully use us.

I was reading about a lady who had been deeply hurt by someone and she was finding it extremely hard to walk in love so she would look in the mirror and talk to her reflection and say “You will walk in love.” She made her mind up and set her will to do it even when her emotions said the opposite.

So next time someone hurts us or really upsets our hearts we can know that we can go the Holy Spirit and ask Him to help us walk in the love God has given us, even when we don’t ‘feel’ like it. He’s promised to strengthen us and give us the grace to do it and we can know that nothing, no hurt, no offence, nothing can separate us from His amazing love. Thank You Lord. Amen.
