ROOTED AND GROUNDED

Ephesians 3:16-19 NLT I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

I kept hearing these words in my spirit - ‘rooted and grounded’ which is from the New King James translation of this verse. ‘that you, being rooted and grounded in love…’ Thankfully it doesn’t say rooted and grounded in condemnation or judgement!

It made me think of when I try to take cuttings from my plants and I wait for the new roots to grow so the plant is literally rooted and grounded in good soil and starts to grow new leaves.

We’re all like God’s plants, some of us may be fresh new plants, and others of us may be a bit more established but whatever stage we’re at we are all totally dependent on having our roots going down into God’s love for us. It’s another part of being anchored to Jesus - anchored in His great love. What a wonderful thought to dwell on throughout our day. “I’m rooted in Jesus’ love for me.”😊

Paul reminds us that when we do that we shall be strong and we so need to understand just how immense and all encompassing God’s love for us really is. It will keep us not just rooted and grounded throughout the storms of life but it will make us grow new roots and shoots and help us bear much fruit.

The Holy Spirit goes on to say we’ll experience the life and power that comes from God. What a promise! 😊 I’m sure we’d all like some of that, so let’s allow the words of our verses above to encourage us today and imagine with me our roots growing deeper and deeper into His wonderful unconditional love for us. Amen. Thank You Lord.

Ephesians 3:20 NLT Now all glory to God, who is able through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
