A GREAT LIGHT

Matthew 4:15-16 NLT “In the land of Zebulun and of Naphtali, beside the sea, beyond the Jordan River, in Galilee where so many Gentiles live, the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.”

If you’ve ever moved house you’ll know what Jesus’ early life was like; born in Bethlehem, escaped in flight to Egypt, returned a few years later to Nazareth to grow up. Then after being baptised it says He first went back to Nazareth, then He moved 40 miles away to Capernaum to live beside the Sea of Galilee.😊

But our verses remind us why He moved there. Isaiah had prophesied it centuries before, in order for those towns where so many Gentiles lived, to see Jesus the Light of the World because they were people who sat in darkness.  I’m so glad Jesus came to save the whole world. We can thank God for that!

Today many people are sitting in darkness, away from God, away from His Light, and our job is to bring the Light to them. Jesus, the Light, moved to where the darkness was, to where it says death cast its shadow, and He shone the light of God, the Good News of the gospel, the healing power of God into their lives and people flocked to Him.

He told them to repent of their sins, to turn back to God, so that they could come out of their darkness. That’s the great commission He has given all of us, to let people know God has forgiven all their sins because Jesus has taken them all on Himself, so they can be reconciled to God once more. What Good News! What a privilege we have been given!😊

John 3:16-18 NLT For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.

Lord help us to share the Good News about Jesus, to take His light into a world that sits in darkness and give them hope. In Jesus name. Amen.
