TASTE AND SEE

Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

Don’t you just love walking into a house where there has been some baking going on? The aroma of freshly baked bread or cakes is so appetising, it draw us in and makes us want to taste it, because we know it’s going to be good. I know, because as I write this I’ve just done a big baking of date and cinnamon loaf, peanut squares and fruit loaf and the smells are lovely. Anyone for tea?😊

In this psalm David was having a hard time when he had to pretend to be insane in front of King Abimelech hoping he’d be set free. Quite extreme really but his life was on the line and God rescued him yet again. He’s so grateful to the Lord that he exalts and praises Him, and talks about being radiant with joy because God had rescued him from all his fears. God turned his circumstances round and he sounds quite ecstatic.😊

In fact, he’s so enthused he wants everyone to taste and see how good God is. He even goes further in v.10 when he says the one who trusts in God will lack no good thing.

When we taste how good God is, then the good things He has for us will naturally follow on. How encouraging that is for us all. He goes from terrible fear  to praising God, being filled with joy, being surrounded by angels and telling of God’s greatness.

Maybe we too can learn from David as we follow his example and do some praising and exalting God of our own and taste and see that the Lord really is good to us all. Amen.
