We all know tortoises are rather slow, and they reminded me of the fact that things can go rather slowly in our lives when we’re waiting for things to happen. It might be at the red traffic light and praying it would go green when we’re in a hurry, or hoping our prayers will be answered more quickly. Whatever it is, some things can’t be hurried but they are worth waiting for.😊
In a world that wants everything instantly it can be hard waiting for God to bring about the answer to our prayers but scripture says we inherit the promises through faith and patience, (Hebrews 6:12) but we tend to conveniently forget the ‘and patience’ bit!
We don’t hear a lot of teaching on patience but it’s one of the nine fruit of the Spirit and it’s not a virtue that comes naturally to some of us. Thankfully it’s the Holy Spirit who produces it in our spirit, along with all the other fruit, but we do have to cooperate with Him when we feel frustration building up like a bottle of pop waiting to explode! We don’t want to be like the person who said “God give me patience and I want it now!”
Abraham and Sarah had to wait patiently for years for their promised son to arrive, Joseph had 13 years of slavery and imprisonment, waiting patiently to be released, and on the day he was released he was also made prime minister!
You see, it’s worth being patient because it brings great rewards. So next time you feel impatience beginning to rise up, just take a deep breath and call on the Holy Spirit to help you produce some lovely fruit of patience and see the reward manifest at just the right time.
Whatever it is we’re waiting for, God knows all about it and He has it all in hand, so we can relax and do our part by staying in faith and being patient!😊
Colossians 1:11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father.
