BLESSING IN OBEDIENCE

2 Kings 4:4-5 Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.” So she did as she was told…

I wonder how often we heard those words as children, “Just do as you’re told!”
At that point we had a decision to make, either obey, or receive a telling off or some other form of discipline! It was always wise though, to do as we were told.😊

1 Samuel 15:22 NLT … Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, ... God still wants us to do as He tells us, simply for the reason that He loves us and has our best interests at heart. He only wants us to be blessed, so we do well to listen to God’s commands and obey them. The lady in these verses obeyed and she was blessed mightily!😊

So what are some of God’s commands? He tells us not to be anxious about anything, to be thankful in all circumstances, to love our neighbour as ourselves, to forgive just as God has forgiven us. He tells us to do to others whatever we’d like them to do to us, to bear one another’s burdens. He tells us to pray about everything, to bless our enemies, to come boldly to His throne to receive His mercy and grace when we need it, to lay hands on the sick, to cast out demons, to tell people about Jesus. That’s just for starters.😊

None of it is rocket science, but when we do as we’re told we’re bringing God’s kingdom in. There may be times when we want to do our own thing and rebel, but if we’re wise we’ll follow the Spirit’s leading and not what our flesh wants!

So let’s call on the Holy Spirit this week to help us obey whatever we hear Him tell us to do, whether it’s an old instruction or something entirely new, specific to our own circumstances. It may be to start something new, to not work such long hours, to phone or help someone or just go for a walk!

May your week be greatly blessed as you trust and obey, and see His blessings unfold.😊 In Jesus’ name. Amen.

  1. Jackie, THANKYOU for this message,
And as I read the two verses, I found myself going to my bible and reading the story and ended up reading the whole chapter ( couldn't stop! 😉)
And what a story of obedience, and how the Lord blesses us as we obey Him, as it is said obedience is better than sacrifice, our God is a Great BIG God and knows what is best for us and know the end from the beginning, and knows what is Best for each one of us; what a Mighty Loving Father in heaven we have 🙏😊
