When we’re invited for a meal, at some point we’re asked to come to the table because the meal is ready to be eaten. Now, to not sit down and enjoy what has been prepared would be so rude and ungrateful wouldn’t it?
Well God has invited us to His table and He has prepared a feast for us - but I don’t think we always realise that.
The Lord Jesus invites us to His table to fellowship with Him over the bread and the wine, to remember and declare His death when He defeated all our foes, where He bought and paid for our salvation with His own blood. Included in that salvation He bought and paid for our healing, our prosperity, our protection and every single thing we shall ever need throughout our entire lives.
When we remember His death the bread is speaking of the stripes on His back which gave us His healing, when we drink the wine we are remembering His shed blood for our redemption. When He says to discern the Lord’s body, part of it is to discern all He did and has won for us by His death, to realise what He has given and made available to us.
We can come to His table any time and there are all manner of things laid out on it. There is a plate of forgiveness and reconciliation, a dish of peace, a tray of healing, a plate of prosperity, a bowl of joy and fulfilment. You get the picture. Whatever it is we need He’s saying He has already provided it for us to take and enjoy from His table - it is literally a feast! It may be the money to pay our bills, it could be restoration of health and strength and so much more.
Will you come to the table, will you take and eat and accept all He has provided and laid out for you? The Psalmist says He has a cup of blessings with your name on it which is literally overflowing with blessings. Are you going to drink from it?
Jesus is speaking to each one of us and says “I have loved you from everlasting to everlasting, now come to the table and take what I’ve prepared for you, enjoy the feast.”😊
