2 Samuel 5:23 And again David asked the Lord what to do.
My daughter was chatting to some five year olds when one brought her half a small white egg shell to see, so she asked what sort he thought it was. Another five year old happened to be going by, looked at the egg, and said “It’s a squirrel’s egg!”, then dashed off.😊 A child’s perspective on life is great, don’t you think?!
Sometimes we think we know the answer as well, but if we’ve been taught wrongly, or only have half the information it’s easy to get it wrong! We look at situations and make assumptions and we do get it right sometimes but the better way is to ask God for His answer each time before we jump in with ours.
There’s a good example of this in 2 Samuel 5:17-25 where David asked the Lord if he should go and fight the Philistines. God said yes, David won the battle and said the Lord gave him the breakthrough. Then after a while the Philistines returned and David had the wisdom to ask God again if he should attack them. God said yes again but gave him totally different instructions this time on how to do it. David did what God commanded and He gave him the victory yet again.
Just because we’ve done something one way before shouldn’t stop us from checking with the Lord each time a similar thing comes up and find out His strategy for dealing with it, just in case He has a different answer then the one we think is right!
So next time we have half an egg, so to speak, let’s remember to go to the right person, to God Himself, so we get the right answer or we might end up with egg on our faces!😊
Have a blessed holiday weekend.😊
