We read on in the psalm how Asaph had a ‘But then’ moment and we can all have one of those as well. He suddenly changes tack and decides to stop moaning and instead he recalls all the Lord has done in the past. How God worked miracles where He controlled the weather to bring about His mighty deeds, how He showed them a path they didn’t even know was there to rescue His people!
Asaph stops his crying and shifts his thinking. He says now he can’t stop thinking about the great wonders of God. So often we can’t stop thinking about the problems we face! But Asaph learned that didn’t work for him any more than it does for us! So he changed his focus and remembered how mighty his God was, and is, how He had rescued them in the past and he knew God would come through for him again.π
So, if you’ve had sleepless nights, crying out to God, it’s time for your ‘But then…’. It’s time to start remembering how God has delivered His people before, how He heals the brokenhearted, or healed you in the past, that He is for you and not against you. He has not forgotten you for one second.
God is still the holy, mighty God of great wonders, the God of miracles of healings and provision.
Let’s give Him all our praise today, and never stop thinking about how our God still loves us and rescues us every single day. In Jesus name. Amen.
